Authors Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman of the Gallup Organization set out to write a book that would not become obsolete in a year, a book with a simple but effective premise. To accomplish this, they set out to answer four questions: 1) "What will talented employees always need?" 2) "What will great managers always do to turn talent into performance?" 3) What are the enduring secrets to finding, focusing and keeping talented employees?" 4)"What are the constants?"(17). In order to get the answers to those questions, they conducted interviews with over 80,000 managers from over 400 companies of all types. They asked each manager the same twelve questions.
