Visual Agnosia.

This paper discusses visual agnosia. Agnosia is a rare perceptual disorder of the brain whereby the person is unable to recognize and identify objects or persons whose characteristics are known to him. (NINDS 2001) The person may or may not be able to recognize the geometric features of a face or object; if he does, he does not recognize the use or meaning of that object or face. This disorder can affect the sight, hearing or touch and can result from strokes, dementia or other neurological disorders (NINDS), specifically in the occipital or parietal lobes of the brain. The person's cognitive abilities in other areas remain intact.
